As COVID-19 becomes a virus that we learn to live with, it may still impact the learning of some children who test positive for the virus as they will need to self isolate for a period of time. We will continue to support all of our pupils through our remote education programme, should they need to self isolate or in the event of lockdown measures following government guidance.
Mrs Wardle, our Principal, has responsibility for the quality and delivery of remote education, including that provision meets expectations for remote education.
Curriculum Offer
The same curriculum will be offered to any children on site and to those who are accessing remote education. This curriculum offer follows the same sequence of learning as outlined in our whole school long term plans (which can be viewed on the curriculum pages of this website). However, there may be some slight adaptations in some subjects to ensure lessons can be accessed with limited equipment at home. For example, PE, Design and Technology, Art and Science will be planned with this in mind, but still ensuring that key knowledge and progression of learning is in place.
Digital Platform
From September 2022-2023, if your child needs to self-isolate as they have tested positive for COVID-19, please inform school immediately and we will notify your child’s class teacher. From the next school day, your child will be able to access remote education via their Google Classroom (Y5/6) or Dojo (Y4, 3, 2, 1, R, N) account.
It is important that children engage with remote learning and that parents keep in touch with school and up to date with information.
We will continue to use the text service for messages and emails and the school Dojo page for updates and newsletters. You can contact the school office as normal via telephone (01902 866840) or email office@corpuschristiacademy.co.uk and teaching staff are available to support children during normal school hours.
Daily Learning Time
Whilst children are accessing remote education, we expect daily lessons and learning activities delivered and prepared by our teachers to take pupils the minimum of:
- EYFS: Nursery 1.5 hours
- EYFS: Reception 2 hours
- KS1 (Y1 and Y2): 3 hours
- KS2 (Y3-Y6): 4 hours
Wellbeing
You and your child will be contacted via a phone call to check on wellbeing, offer any support where needed and to assist with any queries regarding remote education.
If you have any urgent queries regarding remote education or access to the internet/devices, please contact the school office and we will get back to you promptly for further support.
Pupil Expectations
- Make sure you are up, dressed and have had your breakfast ready to start learning at home.
- Try to find a quiet, calm area at home to work.
- Make sure you have your remote education exercise book and pencil with you and your device set up ready to start your learning (you may need to ask your parent to help you with this).
- Remember: learning remotely is no different to learning in school (apart from your environment and using a device more often) – you can do this!
- Try your best and if you get stuck, remember the different ‘self-help’ tips your teachers remind you about in school.
- Make sure your handwriting and presentation is as neat as it is in school – take pride in your work, wherever you are! Your teachers are excited when they receive your completed work on Google Classroom/Dojo.
Parent Expectations
- Your child/ren should access Google Classroom/Dojo every day – they need your support to do this.
- Set a routine for school work with your child. Know when the live lessons of the day are and plan the day from there – make sure breaks and time away from the screen are planned in – this is very important.
- We expect work set to be completed on the day it is set, and wherever possible within the school working day, this is the best routine to stick to, to keep some normality.
- Work handed in after midnight of the day set, may not be marked by the teacher – we expect all parents to appreciate that each class teacher is teaching children remotely and on site at the same time.
- Parental feedback about how things are going will help us support your child or you, ask for help when you need it and we will be more than happy to support.
- We do recognise households may be sharing devices and have other work commitments, so if you need to hand in work via Google Classroom late in the evening, please email the office and they will let the teacher know.
The information and documents below explain in more detail our remote learning offer and the school’s approach to ensuring high quality remote education that is appropriate for our children and the community.
During a period of remote learning the class teachers will continue to follow the usual timetable and deliver a high-quality curriculum which follows a clear sequence of lessons and builds on prior learning.
Teachers will make adaptations to the long term plan and certain units that are difficult to teach remotely and require a large amount of equipment or collaboration with other pupils.
The approach for remote learning in each class will vary depending on the age of the children but all classes from Reception to Year 6 will include an element of live lessons. Please see the timetable below.

Teachers will also provide pre-recorded videos that can be watched at any time throughout the day, this will support families who have work commitments and other family members completing live lessons.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom will be used as the digital platform for years 5 and 6. Teachers will share pre-recorded and live lessons, independent tasks, daily messages and regular feedback to their classes. Live lessons for Reception to Y4 will also take place via Google Classroom and children will be sent links to join the lessons.
Class Dojo
Class Dojo will be used as the digital platform for Nursery to Year 4. (Teachers in Year 5 and Year 6 will use Class Dojo to communicate messages to parents and children when required). Teachers in Nursery to Year 4 will upload videos and activities and communicate with the children via the messaging service. Work is to be uploaded to the children’s portfolios and teachers will approve and comment on work if appropriate.
